FIRE RISK ASSESSMENTS

Fire Risk Assessments are a legal requirement and if you don't have one you may be breaking the law, but don't worry, we're here to help!

What is a Fire Risk Assessment?

A Fire Risk Assessment is an organised and methodical look at your premises, the activities carried out there, and the likelihood for a fire to start and cause harm to those in and around the premises.

There are five key steps to a Fire Risk Assessment:

  • Identify the fire hazards

  • Identify people at risk

  • Evaluate, remove or reduce the risks

  • Record your findings, prepare an emergency plan & provide training

  • Review and update regularly

Who needs a Fire Risk Assessment?

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires that the Responsible Person is to carry out a “suitable and sufficient” assessment of the risks on their premises.  These requirements apply to all non-domestic premises, such as where people work, visit or stay, including workplaces, and the non-domestic parts of multi-occupied residential buildings (e.g. communal corridors, stairways, plant rooms).

The assessment should be carried out by somebody with sufficient competence and experience.

What's the process?

Aventum will make contact with the responsible person, who is usually the business owner, and gather some information regarding the type of premises and nature of the business.  One of Aventum’s fire risk assessors will then attend your premises and conduct a comprehensive fire risk assessment using our specific fire risk assessment software.  This will include, but is not limited to, taking photos, the measuring of rooms, doors and any stairwells, reviewing any supporting documentation regarding the construction of the building, fire alarm systems and any present training records.

A full list of supporting documentation will be requested prior to attendance to help speed up the process and allow for our fire risk assessor to prepare any questions for the responsible person on the day of the assessment.

Once the fire risk assessor is content they have all the information necessary to compile the fire risk assessment, the assessment will be written up and then produced to the responsible person in both a hard copy and digital format.  The fire risk assessment will contain all the information regarding the business and the premises, and will provide full advice on how to ensure the business is in full compliance with the ‘Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005’. This will be achieved by listing the findings of the report and an action plan on how to rectify those findings.

Prices start at £250. This service can be combined with fire door inspections.
